WILSONVILLE – The Dec. 5 meeting of the Oregon School Activities Association Football Ad Hoc Committee has released a preliminary first draft of possible changes in the 2A and 1A football ranks. The committee will meet again Jan. 8 and is looking for feedback regarding the possible new leagues.

Under the new idea, Culver will remain in the 2A Special District 5. However, the Bulldogs will see the departure of the Lowell Devils to Special District 4 while seeing both the St. Mary’s Crusaders and the Illinois Valley Crusaders come into the league. Illinois Valley played this past season in the Special District 4 while St. Mary’s played at the 3A level before declaring a forfeit of the season after the team’s Oct. 11 loss.

With the proposed loss of Weston-McEwen/Griswold to the 3A, the 2A Special District 6 sees Sherman/Condon replacing the TigerScots. The plan calls for the Huskies to step up from the 1A ranks where they finished 6-5 this last season, advancing to the quarterfinals of the state playoffs.

The 1A Special District 3 will also see new faces under the new plan. With Sherman/Condon moving up, the plans call for the Huskies to be replaced by Echo. The Cougars played in the 6-man ranks this past season, finishing 7-4 and making it to the quarterfinals of the state championship bracket.

The plan also calls for the 1A Special District 2 to increase in team numbers by two squads. Joining the district under the proposal would be Pine Eagle and Prairie City/Burnt River. Both the Panthers and Spartans would step up from the 6-man ranks where Prairie City/Burnt River finished 9-3 and a semifinal appearance in the state playoffs while the Spartans finished 1-7.

The 1A Special District 1 6-man league will replace the two above teams with one squad. After playing an independent schedule and finishing without a victory in 8-man football, the Cardinals of Ione/Arlington look to drop down to the 6-man ranks and join the Special District 1 according to the proposal.
