LA PINE – Both the boys and girls of the La Pine track and field team played host to the La Pine Invitational on Saturday, April 15 while also finishing the day second in the team races to Madras.

The Hawk boys finished the day with 94 points compared to a total of 164.5 points for Madras. For the girls, La Pine put up 115 points while Madras scored 152.5 points.

Wyatt Montgomery continues to dominate the distance events, taking the top spot in both the 800 and 1500 races. The 1500 saw the La Pine senior set a new personal record with a time of 4 minutes, 5.99 seconds.

Hawk junior Colton May also set a new person record and took first place in the shot put event with a throw of 42 feet, 2.5 inches. Although he has cleared higher in his career, senior Darrell Goddard’s clearance of 12 feet in the pole vault was tops in the field.

Junior Kira Dennison picked up a first-place showing in the 200 followed by a second place finish in the 100 meters. She later joined with Savannah Johnstone, Lucy Fisher and Rylee Miller to down the rest of the field in the 4-by-100 relay with a time of 54.04. Fisher also won the pole vault with a personal best showing of 8 feet.

Miller doubled up the wins for the day taking first in the javelin with a throw of 109 feet, 2 inches, her best heave of her high school career.
