Lady Tigers Claim Top 3 Spots At State XC (Including full results for Baker, La Grande, Ontario and Pendleton)

EUGENE – La Grande junior Cecilia Villagomez is a state champion after the Tiger was the lone runner to complete a messy, rainy course in under 19 minutes as the 4A state cross country race was ran Saturday, Nov. 4 on the campus of Lane Community College.

In addition to battling the weather, Villagomez also had to contend with teammate and sophomore Brooke Perry, the second-place finisher. Villagomez crossed the line in 18 minutes, 57.1 seconds while Perry clocked a time of 19:14.3. La Grande senior Emily Tubbs made the finish line a meeting of Tigers running third with a time of 19:29.5.

Baker’s top runner for the race was junior Sofia Kaaen and Pendleton’s Melissa Tune had the best showing for the Lady Bucs.

Even after taking the top three spots, the Tiger girls ended the day second in the team scoring to Philomath. Baker placed 12th in the team standings.

On the boys’ side, Baker’s Daniel was the lone eastern Oregon runner to finish in the top 10, placing eighth after crossing the line with a time of 17:03.7. Pendelton’s Jack Reynolds picked up 15th for the Buckaroos and for La Grande, Josef Simonis placed 38th. Ontario’s lone runner in the race, Jack Hally, finished 47th.

The Bulldog boys placed 10th in the team standings followed by Pendleton in 12th.
