UNION – There are few track and field meets in Oregon offering the diversity of races held at the Union Relays.
Teams gathered on Saturday, April 24, knowing immediately this meet was different. The initial race was the Distance Medley Relay, a competition starting with 1,200 meters followed by 400 meters, 800 meters and the finishing runner completing 1,600 meters. You typically don’t see an Oregon relay taking upwards of 15 minutes to complete.
Athletes also competed in the 4-by200 relay and 4-by-400 relay races, competitions not typically seen in eastern Oregon.
As the day was completed, the La Grande boys and girls grabbed the team titles. The day also provided a number of athletes the opportunity to try some new races and cross over and try a field event if typically a runner.
