VALE – The Vale girls’ basketball team used the league opener to post a defensive effort, holding the McLoughlin Pioneers to the Vikings’ lowest point total of the year in a 53-15 3A Eastern Oregon League victory.

The Viks scored the initial seven points of the game off a basket from Halle Peterson and a long three by Kinsey Meisinger. With just under three minutes left in the quarter, the Pioneers hit the scoreboard off a pair of free throws by from Madi Perkins, the only two points of the quarter for MacHi.

Vale had this game in hand by halftime, leading 25-7 and upped their margin to 38-9 by the end of the third quarter. The majority of the final eight minutes was played under the “mercy rule” with bench players for Vale on the court.

Nine Vikings placed points on the board led by Haylee Cleaver’s 12 points followed closely by Peterson’s 11 points.

For MacHi, Perkins finished with seven points.
