VALE – Members of each of the Vale High School’s sports teams joined alongside representatives of the school’s Associated Student Body in presenting a check in the amount of $1,200 towards the construction of a park in town.

The money, raised by the student athletes and students of the school, will be used towards the Gary Kamo Park in Vale, a project currently with plans and looking towards groundbreaking.

For two student athletes presenting the check to Kamo’s widow, the day meant even more. Sophie and Brooks Aldred are both grandchildren of the late longtime fan of Vale athletics and community supporter.

“My grandfather was important both in my life and to many people in Vale,” said Sophie, a sophomore at Vale High School. “It is great he is being recognized with the construction of the park.”

“I am very proud of what the school has done today,” said Brooks, a junior. “It is important we notice everything my grandfather did for the community and I am proud the school did this.”

“Gary was a pillar of our community and the park will be fantastic when finished,” said Jeff Aldred, Vale football coach and a family member to the Kamo clan. “He was a big supporter of Vale and Vale athletics and it is great to see the students give back.”

‘We are pleased to accept the donation as we continue the work to have this park completed,” said Zach Knapp with the Vale Community Coalition, the group spearheading the park’s progress and ultimate completion. “Many in Vale are looking forward to the park’s completion and have given their time, effort and money towards it. It is always great to see the youth in our community step up.”
