VALE – Surrounded by family, friends, teammates and coaches from both football and track and field, Vale senior Skyler Cade made if official. The Viking will play football and run track for Eastern Oregon University next fall.
“EOU just felt like the place I should be,” said Cade. “It is the right fit for me to prove exactly what I can do.”
Cade has plans on taking the field in the fall as both a receiver and defensive back for the Mountaineer’s football team. When the season finishes, he will take his talents to the track team where he plans on running the 400 meters and joining teammates for the 4-by-400 relay team.
While accomplishing all this, Cade stated he will pursue studies in exercise science at Eastern.
“I would not be here without all the support from my family, coaches, friends and most importantly, God,” Cade said.
The upcoming track and field season will wrap up four years of Cade playing three sports each year.
“I think the best memories I have of high school sports is the really long bus trips,” he recalled. “Those will be the times I remember for a long time.”
“Skylar has dynamic speed, with the ability to run with anyone in the Frontier. He will compete at many positions! We are excited to keep the Vale pipeline alive as EOU has had many great athletes from there,” said Mountaineer coach Leon La Deaux.
Cade should be able to find familiar faces on campus as Eastern Oregon University football also signed Adrian’s Rance Jordan, Union’s Morgan Johnson and Pendleton’s Mason Strong and Deacon Pace. Cade and Strong will both take their places on the wide receiver group for the Mountaineers.
