Vale Wins In First Shutout Of Season

Jamieson Produce is an onion packing shed located in Vale, Oregon that packs and ships onions across the United States 12 months of the year. Y-1 Farms is located in Jamieson, Oregon and is owned by Doug and Terrie Maag and Corey and Mandi Maag. Various row crops such as onions, sugar beets, silage corn, alfalfa, and wheat are grown on nearly 2000 acres. The feed crops are used to provide feed for the feedlot they operate. Up to 12,000 head of cattle can be fed at Y-1 Farms. Y-1 Farms was established in 1985 but the Maag Family was farming before that. Doug farmed with his father, Warner Maag, for several years prior before purchasing his own farm. Y-1 Farms employs about 20 full-time employees to assist in operating the farm. LAKEVIEW – In the team’s final game before entering 3A Special District 6 football play, the Viking defense did not allow the homefield Honkers of Lakeview to place a point on the board in a 34-0 nonleague victory on Friday, Sept. 27. The game marked the first time six-ranked Vale shutout an opponent this year.

In the scoreless attempt, the Honkers were held to only 118 yards of total offense for the night by the Viking defense.

Vale jumped on the scoring early, putting up 14 points in the first quarter and led at the half, 20-0. Viking senior Kase Schaffeld found the endzone three times versus the Honker defense, twice rushing and once on his lone reception of the game. Schaffeld carried 21 times for 181 yards with the Vale ground game accounting for 248 of Vale’s 385 yards of total offense.

For the game, senior quarterback Brooks Aldred finished 10-for-23 for 137 yards with the scoring pass to Schaffeld and two interceptions versus the Lakeview secondary. Junior Canon Hiatt grabbed two receptions for 48 yards to lead Vale.

In the loss, Lakeview senior quarterback Zaryk Winters finished 6-for-8 for 48 yards. Winters also led the rushing yards for the Honkers, carrying 25 times for 66 yards.

The loss marks the second team from the Special District 6 Lakeview has been on the wrong side of the scoreboard as Burns also recorded a 39-0 shutout victory over the Honkers.
