LA GRANDE – The Vale volleyball team picked up their second victory of the season after a visit to La Grande ended with a 3-1 win on Thursday, Sept. 12.
In a highly contested first set, the Vikings were able to grab a 25-23 advantage only to see the Tigers return in the second set to even up the match with a 25-19 win.
The third set went the way of Vale, 25-16 and the Vikings wrapped up the match victory with a 25-18 fourth set win.
Senior Elise Seals led Vale in serve/receive and the Vikings picked up seven kills from junior Ella Nieskens offensively. Sophomore Kaylynn Brandon added five kills and freshman Braelyn Keller ended her night with three kills. Mckenna Justus led the teams in digs.
“Our bench did an exceptional job filling in tonight due to illness going through the team,” said Vale coach Shannon Steele. “La Grande is a scrappy team.”
“I thought we played well defensively but in several of the games, we got down into big holes and had to dig ourselves out,” said La Grande coach Melinda Becker-Bisenius. “Riley Robinson and Madison Seavert had a good defensive effort tonight while Taryn Mcllmoil and Madison Armstrong played well offensively.”
Both teams took the weekend to attend the Sisters Tournament with pool play starting Saturday, Sept. 14 in the morning.
