VALE – Vale girls’ head basketball coach Jason Johnson was tired of seeing his team on the practice floor day after day. Waiting to play a game, Johnson and the Vikings had their chance, opening the season before the home crowd on Friday, December 6 against the Idaho 3A Homedale Trojans. The Viks made the most of the opportunity, rolling over Homedale, 53-25.
“We were just tired of playing ourselves,” Johnson said after the win. “We worked hard tonight and I saw some things go well. This was a good start to a tough season ahead and we have work to do.”
The Vikings were balanced throughout the game, scoring 26 points in the first half. Vale put up 27 points in the second half.
Emmersyn Johnson led the charge with 14 points with Matyson Siddoway adding 10 points. Sierra Cleaver and Ashley Jacobs ended their night with 8 points each.
Vale (1-0 overall) takes to the road on Tuesday to take on winless Idaho 3A Weiser and will again be on the bus on Saturday as the Viks are in Fruitland to take on the Grizzlies.
