NEW PLYMOUTH, ID – Jumping to another state for tournament play can be interesting. Many times, the scheduled game involves teams with no knowledge of each other. This was the case as the Vale boys basketball team opened play at the TruckStop.com Tournament in New Plymouth, Idaho on Tuesday, Dec. 28.

The Vikings opened bracket play versus the Idaho 1AD1 Riverstone Otters. The Otters came into the game with a 2-3 record, but posted a 16-1 record last season, falling in the state playoff semifinals.

Leading from the first basket, the Vikings downed the undersized Otters, 77-33 to advance in the bracket. Although dominating the boards on both ends of the court, Vale was forced to come out and defend Riverstone shooters having no qualms with bombing and making long-range three-point shots.

Vale’s Colten Stepleton did not allow the Otters to grab all the glory from three-point land, putting in four 3s on the way to his game high 16 points. Luke McGourty added 14 points and working the inside, John Wolfe added 13 points. Tanner Steele ended his game with 12 points.
