Union hosts Blue Mountain District volleyball

Union High School will be the site as the Blue Mountain District volleyball tournament takes to the court on Saturday, October 26.

The action takes to the court at noon as the second seed Stanfield Tigers (8-4 league) meet up with the third seed Grant Union Prospectors (7-5 league). The two teams split in the two meetings this season.

The second game of the day will find the Weston-McEwen TigerScots (6-6 league) taking the court against the Heppner Mustangs (6-6 league). This could be the closest match of the day on paper as Heppner downed Weston-McEwen, 3-2, on October 1. The TigerScots returned the favor on October 15, taking a 3-1 win over the Mustangs.

The winner of the second game will meet the loser of the Stanfield/Grant Union match in game three. The victor in game three will need to wait for the OSAA to announce the at-large bids before making the bus plans for the state tournament.

The winner of game one will meet the top-seeded Union Bobcats and their perfect 12-0 league record. The Bobcats have dropped only three matches this year, falling to 4A La Grande and to 2A Pilot Rock on two occasions. The winner of game four will host the first round of the state tournament with the loser waiting for the bracket to be posted to determine if a home or away match is scheduled.
