Union Girls Reign As District Cross County Champions

JOHN DAY – In the 2014 cross country season, the Union girls’ cross country grabbed a state title. Maybe seven years is a lucky number for the Bobcats as Union returns to the state meet after winning the district 3A/2A/1A District 3 title on Friday, Oct. 29 in John Day.

Placing three runners in the top ten individual finishes, the strength of the Union team came through as the Bobcats put up 33 points. Burns place second with a total of 52 with Heppner grabbing third after a 68-point showing. Enterprise and Weston-McEwen rounded out the top five.

In addition to Union and Burns making the trip to Lane Community College for the state meet, the top five individual finishers will also make the trip west unless affiliated with Union or Burns.

Leading the charge for the Bobcats was senior Audrey Wells, placing first with a time of 20 minutes, 23 seconds. She was followed by Burns senior Riley Morris and Condon senior Kallyn Wilkins. The senior finishes continued as Hilander senior Olivia Winn placed fourth.

A junior finally broke into the top five by way of La Pine’s Ashley Jentzsch placing fifth.
