PENDLETON – Both the boys and girls’ squads of the Union cross country team showed school size does not dictate team finishes during the running of the IMC District Preview on Thursday, Oct. 14 in Pendleton.
The Union girls placed second in the team standings, falling only to Hood River Valley’s 23 points while the Bobcats finished with 42 points.
Union was led by senior Audrey Wells and her second-place finish, crossing the line in a time of 20 minutes, 54.8 seconds. Condon senior Kallyn Wilkins placed fourth in the race with a time of 21:11.0. Union senior Audrey Garlitz had a top ten finish, placing eighth after a time of 22:00.8.
The top finish for Nixyaawii Community was senior Keyen Singer in 17th.
Trying to match their teammates, the Union boys finished third in the team point totals. Hood River Valley also took the boys title with 39 followed by The Dalles with 47 points. Union’s point tally for the day was 49.
The Bobcat boys grabbed three top ten finishes led by junior Taylor Fox in fourth with a time of 17:01.3. Sophomore Eli Williams finished sixth, passing the line in 17:19.5 and freshman Nathanael O’Reilly posted his first race under 18 minutes, finishing ninth with a time of 17:41.7.
The top finish for Condon went to sophomore Grady Greenwood in 14th and the Golden Eagles saw sophomore Baron Moses place 24th for a top finish for Nixyaawii.
