Union Boys Join Bobcat Girls As District Champions

JOHN DAY – The Union boys cross country team could not allow their female counterparts to have all the glory. Like the girls’ team, the Bobcat boys ran away with the 2A/1A District 3 cross country team title on Friday, Oct. 29 in John Day.

Union finished with 27 points, easily ahead of second place Heppner’s 55 points. Grant Union placed third and the newest addition to the district, Bickleton, placed fourth.

The top five individual finishers crossing the finish line represented five separate teams. Pine Eagle senior Caleb Brown was the lone runner under the 16-minute mark, winning the race in 15 minutes, 54.9 seconds.

Brown was followed by Heppner junior Trevor Nichols with a time of 16:01.3 and Union junior Taylor Fox with a time of 16:21.1. Fourth place went to Weston-McEwen junior Alex McIntyre and junior Luke Binfet will be the first Pirate from Bickleton to attend an Oregon state cross country meet after his fifth- place finish.

Brown, Nichols, McIntyre and Binfet all ran personal best times of the season in the district meet.
