WILSONVILLE – The Weston-McEwen football team will remain playing nine-man football next fall in the 2A ranks after choosing to dissolve a co-op agreement with Griswold.
The move came after the Executive Board of the Oregon School Activities Association met on Tuesday, Nov. 4 and voted to accept the recommendations of the Football Ad Hoc Committee. The members of the ad hoc advised to move the TigerScots/Grizzlies to the 3A level. As the Executive Board approved the proposal, Weston-McEwen decided to reduce their school numbers by dissolving the cooperative agreement, moving back down to 2A numbers for the football season. Under a cooperative, the total number of students of both schools are considered to determine division eligibility.
The path for Weston-McEwen football is now clear. The TigerScots will return to the 2A Special District 6 to join Enterprise, Grant Union, Heppner, Irrigon, Riverside, Sherman/Condon and Stanfield.
For those student athletes wishing to play football while attending Griswold, the plan is less clear. The Grizzlies can seek out an alternate school for which to form a cooperative, possibly Pendleton. Griswold currently operates under a cooperative agreement with the Buckaroos for the spring golf season. The other alternative is to form a sole Grizzly team and enter the world of six-man football in the 1A.
