BEND – A weekend trip to Bend resulted in a win and a tie for the La Grande girls’ soccer team.
Taking on Seaside on Friday, Sept. 6, the Tigers saw two goals from Rowan Evans with the defense holding Seaside scoreless in a 2-0 nonleague win.
“The team really started the second half well,” said coach Chris Gianandrea. “Coming out, we started a run with a 15-pass offensive set to get going.”
Both Gianandrea and the Tiger team were not up to par as La Grande took on Crook County on Saturday, Sept. 7 with the result ending with a 1-1 tie.
“We just did not play at the level we had against Seaside,” said Gianandrea after receiving reports from his assistant coaches.
A bout of the flu running through the Gianandrea family finally made its way to father and coach Chris, resulting in the game being turned over to the assistant coaching staff.
“I want to thank my staff for stepping up as I just physically could not leave the motel,” the coach said.
Sarah Garwood picked up the lone goal for the Tigers in the tie.
La Grande (2-1-1 overall) will continue nonleague play on Saturday, Sept. 14 in Fruitland, Idaho. The Idaho Grizzlies downed the Tigers 5-3 on Sept. 4, the lone loss of the year for La Grande.
