Teams Start Cross Country Season At Vale Dash N Splash (Complete Results)

VALE – The cross-country teams representing Adrian, Baker, Burns, Four Rivers, Nyssa and host Vale kicked off the season with a two-mile run followed by a little swimming at the Vale Dash n Splash on Thursday, Aug. 25.

On the boys’ side, Baker grabbed the team title with a point total of 30 followed by the Hilanders of Burns with 51 points. Host Vale, led by race winner Trevor Stewart, placed fourth and Nyssa finished fifth.

Baker runners senior Thaddeus Pepera and sophomore Daniel Brown stayed close to Stewart for the initial mile, but the Vale runner took off in the second mile, winning in a time of 10 minutes, 41.37 seconds. Pepera, in second, crossed the line in 10:54.91 with Brown coming in at 11:10.72. The top Burns finisher placed fourth as Lucian Miller picked up a time of 11:18.67.

Adrian freshman Keegan Johnston was top for the Antelopes, placing 20th and a time of 13:04.76. Four Rivers saw senior Aiden Herrera in 23rd with a time of 13:17.78.

It was the Hilanders girls picking up the team title with a score of 41 points. Baker, with 53 points, finished third and the host Viking girls placed fourth.

Though not picking up a team score, Adrian had reason to celebrate as junior Presley Speelmon outdid the rest of the field and won the event with a time of 13:11.1 Speelmon was followed by Vale freshman Addie Saunders and her time of 13:15.79.

Baker sophomore Sofia Kaaen picked up the top Bulldog finish and third overall and Burns senior Mattie Woodbury was top for the Hilanders and placed fourth overall.

Nyssa’s top finisher was freshman Julianna Bowns in 31st.

Easternoregonsports.com is again standing out from other media sources by listing all the runners from eastern Oregon schools in the cross-country competitions. First or 41st, all these runners made it to the finish line. There is only a single runner with the best time, but there are many more stories worth mentioning afterwards.
