EAGLE ISLAND STATE PARK, ID – For schools the size EOS covers on a regular basis, running the Bob Firman Invitational is a race unlike any other. In any one of the races ran over the two days, it is not unusual to witness four, five, six or more individual state champions from differing states take to the start line. Just to be present at the race, run the course and finish is an accomplishment.
In the elite race, the winner finished 5,000 meters in under 15 minutes.
In the race solely for freshman girls, 175 runners finished and Vale’s Addie Saunders placed 13th against the northwest’s future best.
The Division II race saw 261 finishers with the Hilanders’ Sydney White placing 28th.
Vale’s Wyatt Cox, running in the freshman boys race crossed the line in 98th in a race of 275 future champions.
In a race of 326 varsity division II entries, Vale’s Trevor Stewart placed 18th.
Here is the best analogy that can be provided for taking part in the Bob Firman. After taking part in a couple fun runs your local small town, you find yourself on the starting line at the Boston Marathon. Where you finish is not the goal, finishing is the goal.
