State Champion Burns Dominates All-State Softball Selections

After finishing the season 30-1 and grabbing a 3A state title, it is no shock to find the Burns Hilanders softball team dominates the all-state team.

Sophomore Ayla Davies was named Pitcher of the Year after her performance in the state title game where she struck out 14 Yamhill-Carlton batters while only allowing five hits in Burns 3-1 victory.

The player on the other end of Davies pitches, Burns junior catcher Merissa Medley, joined Davies in the ultimate awards, sharing the Player of the Year award with Yamhill-Carolton’s Lexiss Antle. Davies and Medley’s coach, Robert Medley, completed the sweep for Burns.

Adding to the Burns awards, junior Macy Temple picked up first team notice for the Hilanders as an outfielder. Freshman Gracie Mello, playing in her first year of high school softball, was named to the state second team, also as an outfielder. Moving to the infield, Hilander junior Lacie Tiller was placed on the second team listing.

Liz Rowley wrapped up her high school pitching career for Enterprise/Wallowa/Joseph receiving honorable mention on the all-state list as a pitcher. Also picking up honorable mention for Enterprise/Wallowa/Joseph as a utility player was senior Rilyn Kirkland. The third member for Enterprise/Wallowa/Joseph to make the list was sophomore Sophie Moeller, a second-team honoree as an infielder. Moeller was joined on the infield list by fellow sophomore Cooper Nave with Nave being placed on the third team listing. Completing the infield sweep for Enterprise/Wallowa/Joseph was senior Aimee Meyers on the honorable mention.

The Vale softball squad found two players on the all-state list. Sophomore Kacie Jacobs was named to the third team for her efforts in the outfield and senior Alexis Cleaver finished her time with the Vikings as an honorable mention finisher in the infield.
