Led by top honors for offensive player of the year, lineman of the year and coach of the year, eastern Oregon teams made a big splash as the 6-Man All State Football team was released.
The state runner-up Hornets of Harper led the way with junior running back Cope Christensen named Offensive Player of the Year. His coach, David Marker, picked up his first Coach of the Year award.
South Wasco County’s Marco Chavez was named the Lineman of the Year.
Christensen was joined by numerous Harper teammates in the accolades. Sophomore quarterback Richard Joyce picked up honorable mention while Christensen was honored on both sides of the ball after being named first team linebacker. Junior defensive end Colt Bentz was named to the second team while Joyce also picked up defense honors after a second team selection as defensive back.
As with Harper, Chavez was joined on the list be a number of Redside teammates. Playing in his final season, senior quarterback Storm McCoy was named to the first team. He was joined on first team offense by senior running back Gavin Hagan who also picked up first team honors as a defensive back. Completing offense and first team was Redside senior Coy Shirley in the guard position and Chavez as center. Returning next season for South Wasco County, junior linebacker George Barnett picked up second team. Also back on the field next season will be first team and sophomore placekicker Marcel Sandoval who also picked up honorable mention as a punter.
The Prairie City/Burnt River Panthers were represented on the all-state list by junior running back Maison Teel, a second team honoree. Teel also went to the other side of the ball as a first team defensive end. Also on defense, senior JW Haskins picked up honorable mention for his work as a defensive back. Panther sophomore Filip Bieganski will have a few years to improve on his honorable mention standing as both a placekicker and punter.
The Cougars of Echo are represented by junior receiver Mack Murdock, a second team recipient as well as second team defensive end honors. Junior quarterback Kohlvin Wyse picked up honorable mention.
In only his first year on the field, Joseph freshman Kooper Grover was named second team receiver for the Eagle. He was joined on the second team by senior center JT Vargas. Fellow senior Gavin Russell closed out his career as a second team nose guard.
The Tigers of Dayville/Monument/Long Creek are represented by junior guard James Carlin, an honorable mention player on defense.
