ONTARIO – The Crane boys’ basketball team remained league perfect and atop the league standings with a 63-44 victory over the Four Rivers Falcons on Friday, January 24 in Ontario.
The game started quickly for the Mustangs as Peyton Krueger drained a long three-point shot with just 45 seconds off the game clock. The Falcons took a little longer to place points on the score board as Zach Glenn finally found points off a missed shot and rebound with 5:09 showing in the first quarter. As the first quarter came to an end, the two teams stood tied at 13 points.
Crane led at the half by the smallest of margin, one point, 33-32.
The second half proved to be the difference as foul trouble began to plague the Falcons while the Mustangs fell into a groove of finding easy shots under the basket.
At the end of the third quarter, Crane led 44-39 and with easy baskets coming off Falcon turnovers in the final eight minutes, the Mustangs cruised to the 63-44 victory.
Crane sophomore Mitch Clark led all scorers in the game with 21 points. For the Mustangs, senior Peyton Krueger added 11 points and sophomore Ty Taylor ended his night with 9 points.
For the Falcons, senior Carlos M finished with 11 points before leaving the game midway in the fourth due to foul problems. Matt Tamez put in 9 points for the night.
Crane (9-5 overall, 3-0 High Desert League) continues league play on Thursday, January 30 hosting Burnt River (0-9 overall, 0-3 league). High Desert League play continues on Friday with a trip to Monument/Dayville (3-11 overall, 1-1 league) and on Saturday with a visit to Jordan Valley (9-5 overall, 1-1 league).
Four Rivers (6-10 overall, 1-1 league) looks to break a three-game loss streak with a trip to Burnt River on Saturday, January 25.
