NYSSA – Looking to continue her softball career at the collegiate level, Nyssa senior Lauren Sapp wanted family and friends to be able to catch a few of her games. With that in mind, Sapp signed on the dotted line to play as a Treasure Valley Community College Chukar next season on Thursday, April 13 surrounded by family and teammates.
“I really like the coaches and the team at Treasure Valley,” said the starting Bulldog catcher. “The Chukars have a good program going and I wanted to be a part of that.”
Sapp said her position upon joining TVCC is still to be decided and she may move from her present slot as catcher.
“I wish I had a whole team of Laurens,” said Nyssa softball coach Tracy Cleaver. “I can place her anywhere on the field without hesitation. Lauren has been a mainstay of Bulldog softball for four years and will be missed.”
Sapp will join a squad that presently sits at 12-10 overall with a league record of 12-4.
“Lauren came highly recommended and had a great workout with us,” said Chukar coach Gordy Ogawa. “We really like her strength and her grade point average while attending Nyssa.”
Like Sapp’s comment, Ogawa is unsure if the Bulldog will continue in the catcher’s slot when taking the field as a Chukar.
“We know she can play multiple positions and help us,” Ogawa said.
