NAMPA, ID – Picking up nine runs in the first three innings, the Nyssa Bulldog softball team took a nonleague win over Nampa Christian, 15-12 on Tuesday, March 29 on the road.
Lea Garner picked up the victory for the Dawgs from the mound, going six innings and allowing seven hits. She also had three strikeouts. Taylor Cassity came in for the save, going a single inning and allowing four hits with a single strikeout.
“It was nice to get a W as we close in on the start of league next week,” said coach Tracy Cleaver. “Everyone in the lineup had a moment in the game and competed until the end.”
Cleaver returns to the helm of Bulldog softball after a five-year absence spent watching her son play baseball for Nyssa.
“We still have some work to do and continue to work with some options for the right lineup,” Cleaver added. “Lea pitched a great game, and we are anxious to see what the rest of her senior season brings.”
Cleaver was also pleased with the offensive showing for Nyssa. As a team, the bats were hot, going 11-for-32.
Sophomore Morgan Johns was 2-for-4 with a triple and a RBI. Fellow sophomore Destiny Reyes was 3-for-5 and had two runs batted in. The sophomores were hot with the bat as Taylor Cassity was 2-for-4 with a double and a RBI and Alycia Van Meter was 2-for-3 with two doubles.
