BAKER – Grabbing a victory becomes easier when you have Paige Allen scoring four goals in the first eight minutes of a game.
That is exactly what occurred as the La Grande girls’ soccer team cruised to a 8-1 4A Greater Oregon League win over Baker/Powder Valley on Tuesday, Oct. 1 in Baker. In addition to Allen’s four goals, Rowan Evans added three scores on the day and with the Tigers leading 6-0 at the half, the La Grande starters sat most of the second half.
“We had the chance to have many of our swing players get valuable minutes on the field,” said La Grande coach Chris Gianandrea.
The Bulldogs picked up their lone goal on a penalty kick in the second half.
“I can’t say enough about the play of Karli (Kretschmer) in the midfield,” Gianandrea said. “She ended the game with two assists but was instrumental in most of our goals with getting the pass out to the open player. Her play was just outstanding.”
