BAKER – On Friday, May 13, 16 teams will gather at Baker High School promptly at 10 a.m. to decide the district championship for the 1A Special District 4. While the season provides a good indicator of what may occur, a false start, dropped baton, unknown injury or anything else could prove the following article absolutely worthless. That being said, here is our analysis of the upcoming meet.

Boys

100 meters: 1. Jace Martin (Adrian), 10.88. 2. Kaiden Krieger (Powder Valley), 11.41. 3. Reece Dixon (Powder Valley), 11.42.4. Conley Martin (Adrian), 11.49. 5. Ryan Talbot (Harper), 11.59.

Jace Martin is over one-half second better than the rest of the field and should take this race easily. The battle for second should be good as three runners are separated by 8/100ths of a second.

200 meters: 1. Jace Martin (Adrian), 22.42. 2. Conley Martin (Adrian), 23.14. 3. Kaiden Krieger (Powder Valley), 23.17. 4. Reece Dixon (Powder Valley), 23.49. 5. Carter Nichols (Crane), 23.92.

Again, Jace Martin is the lone runner under 23 seconds with brother Conley and Powder Valley’s Krieger within a shoelace of each other. Dixon did run his best time just a few days ago in Baker.

400 meters: 1. Kaiden Krieger (Powder Valley), 51.17. 2. Jackson Chandler (Powder Valley), 52.65. 3. Carter Nichols (Crane), 53.03. 4. Reece Dixon (Powder Valley), 53.12. 5. John Titus (Prairie City), 53.55.

Watch this race as you could see Badgers go 1-2-3 at the line.

800 meters: 1. Caleb Brown (Pine Eagle), 1:59.49. 2. Eli Williams (Cove), 2”05.60. 3. Taylor Fox (Cove), 2:06.95. 4. Cooper Gover (Pine Eagle), 2:07.73. 5. Adam Gordon (Imbler), 2:09.30.

Here is the problem we face in this race-will Brown try all three distance races or settle in for just two wins at district? Brown is the lone runner under 2 minutes with the Cove teammates running shoulder to shoulder with each other. This race depends on Brown’s decision.

1500 meters: 1. Caleb Brown (Pine Eagle), 4:13.25. 2. Eli Williams (Cove), 4:19.25. 3. Bayden Menton (Joseph), 4:20.28. 4. Taylor Fox (Cove), 4:20.75. 5. Jacob Peden (Elgin), 4:39.44.

Again, does Brown strap on his headband for this race or sit back with his air pods and watch? Cove has the future with Williams and Fox back next year.

3000 meters: 1. Caleb Brown (Pine Eagle), 9:18.88. 2. Bayden Menton (Joseph), 9:43.08. 3. Eli Williams (Cove), 9:47.51. 4. Taylor Fox (Cove), 9:51.72. 5. Nathaniel O’Reilly (Cove), 10:01.14.

Is this Brown’s three-peat? This is a race where Cove can pick up quite a few points towards a team total.

110-meter hurdles: 1. Ryan Talbot (Harper), 14.94. 2. Kaiden Krieger (Powder Valley), 16.00. 3. Riley Griffin (Adrian), 17.56. 4. Trevor Treat (Imbler), 17.98. 5. Parker Caldwell (Elgin), 19.04.

Talbot is far and above the best in this field by over one second. The fight in this race could be for third place as Adrian’s Griffin and Imbler’s Treat are separated by fractions of a second. Krieger should run a comfortable second to Talbot.

300-meter hurdles: 1. Kaden Krieger (Powder Valley), 41.07. 2. Ryan Talbot (Harper), 41.33. 3. Kelton Dunten (Crane), 42.15. 4. Gavin Bayes (Adrian), 43.51.5. Eli Wright (Prairie City), 44.30.

Kreiger very well could pick up his second district title in this race. While Talbot has the explosive out-of-the-block speed in the 110, Krieger ran his best time just this past week in the 300.

4X100 relay: 1. Adrian, 44.41.2. Crane, 47.05. 3. Imbler, 47.11. 4. Joseph, 47.62. 5. Elgin, 48.08.

This is Adrian’s race to lose. No other team will be close if the Lopes run this race like they have this season.

4X400 relay: 1. Adrian, 3:39.54. 2. Pine Eagle, 3:41.23. 3. Powder Valley, 3:44.09. 4. Imbler, 3;44.78. 5. Cove, 3:46.47.

This race is not as cut and dry as the 4-by-100. One bad pass by any of the top four could flip the race.

Shot put: 1. Adam Thompson (Crane), 41’0. 2. Jeremiah Martin (Imbler), 40’9. 3. Kale Ferguson (Joseph), 40’0. 4. Logan Profitt (Powder Valley), 38’10. 5. Colt Cobb (Powder Valley), 37’2.5.

Imbler’s Martin tossed his best just a few days ago and could make a run on Crane’s Thompson. Powder Valley’s Profitt has still not eclipsed his best throw from last year.

Discus: Kale Ferguson (Joseph), 143’2.5. 2. Trevor Bertalotto (Adrian), 115’1. 3. Eli Wright (Prairie City), 111’3. 4. Ryker Thomson (Harper), 108’0. 5. Logan Profitt (Powder Valley), 106’3.

Ferguson has five first-place finishes this season. This event is all his.

Javelin: 1. Eli Wright (Prairie City), 161’0. 2. Joe Lathrop (Elgin), 156’3. 3. Kale Ferguson (Joseph), 150’3. 4. Taylor Krueger (Crane), 137’8. 5. Brock Farley (Pine Eagle), 137’7.

Prairie City’s Wright and Elgin’s Lathrop met at the the Don Walker in Nyssa earlier this season with Wright taking the win. Expect these two to battle it out again.

High jump: 1. Reece Nelson (Joseph), 6’2. 2. Eli Wright (Prairie City), 6’1. 3. Kaiden Krieger (Powder Valley), 6’0. 4. Rowan Hassinger (Cove), 5’8. 5. Tyson Ballard (Crane), 5’6.

A few inches separate the top three jumpers in the high jump. The win could go anywhere here.

Pole vault: 1. Ryan Talbot (Harper), 13’11.25. 2. Brady Otley (Crane), 9’6. 3. Nathaniel O’Reilly (Cove), 9’0. 4. Isaih Trujillo (Imbler), 8’0. 4. Adam Thompson (Crane), 8’0.

With one arm behind his back and a bamboo pole, Harper’s Talbot wins this event. He has miscalculated this year, choosing not to go in until 12 feet and then missing his vaults, but at districts look for this to be a wash.

Long jump: 1. Reece Nelson (Joseph), 20 4.5’. 2. Reece Dixon (Powder Valley), 19 9.25’. 3. Jake Bingaman (Imbler), 19 5.5’. 4. Jackson Chandler (Powder Valley), 19 5’. 5. Gavin Bayes (Adrian), 19 0.25’.

The long jump could come down to the battle of the Reece’s.

Triple jump: 1. Nathan Bingaman (Imbler), 43’ 9.5. 2. Colten Bayes (Adrian), 42’10. 3. Reece Nelson (Joseph), 40 10.5’. 4. Reece Dixon (Powder Valley), 40 7.75’. 5. Riley Griffin (Adrian), 39 2.75’.

The top two, Imbler’s Bingaman and Adrian’s Bayes met a few days ago in Baker with Bingaman taking the win, but both posting personal bests. Look for the freshman Bayes to again push Bingaman.

PREDICTION: Adrian picks up too many points in the sprint events for other teams to catch up and the Antelope boys take the district title. Both Adrian and Powder Valley will see quite a few names on the ticket heading to state.
