Powder Valley improves to 31-1 with district tournament win

La Grande – The last time the North Powder Badgers volleyball team lost a match it was in August in the same gym they won the Old Oregon district volleyball tournament on Saturday.  Since losing to La Grande on August 31st the #1 ranked Badgers have been on a mission, rolling off 25 strait matches to improve their record to 31-1.  In that winning streak they have only lost 5 games.  The Badgers beat Joseph 25-19, 24-26, 25-18, 25-16 to win the tournament. 

The tournament started off with very tight matches as Elgin beat Imbler 25-18, 25-19, 16-25, 20-25, 15-12 and Wallowa beat Cove 17-25, 18-25, 25-16, 25-15, 15-4. Wallowa and Elgin then had to play the number 1 and 2 seeds in Powder Valley and Joseph.  Powder Valley took care of Wallowa 25-20, 25-20, 25-19 the same time Joseph was beating Elgin 3-0 25-22, 26-24, 25-17.

Elgin and Wallowa then played for 3rd and 4th place and a place to state with the Cougars prevailing 25-11, 23-25, 25-17, 25-22. 

The Badgers had five players bring in all league honors. Brooke Allen was named player of the year. Belle Blair and Bailey Cole were named to the 1st team all league. Keanna Bingham and Josi Krieger were named to the second team.

Wallowa will now travel to South Wasco County while Joseph will host Prairie City in the opening round of the state playoffs on October 30th
