VALE – Vale senior Halle Peterson dominated the inside game as 3A Vale beat 4A Baker in non-league girls’ basketball action on Tuesday, Jan. 16 in the Viking gym.
The Lady Viks came out firing, scoring 13 points in the first quarter while the Lady Bulldogs managed eight points to start the game. Baker did keep the first half close as Vale cooled down for a five point second quarter. At the half, the two teams hit the locker room with Vale holding an 18-17 margin.
The third quarter proved slow for both teams but the Vikings outscored the Bulldogs 13 to 9 in the final eight minutes to grab the win.
Peterson’s 17 points led all scorers. She was aided by Haily Cleaver’s 11 points.
The scoring was balanced for Baker with every player with the exception of one placing points on the board. The Bulldogs saw Ashlyn Dalton lead the charge with nine points.
Free throw shooting was not a high point for either team as Baker ended the night 8-for-13 and Vale falling under 50% while shooting 7-for-15.
Both teams remain in the top 10 in their respective state rankings. The OSAA has Vale ranked seventh in the 3A while Baker holds down 10th in the 4A rankings.
