BEAVERTON – Pendleton senior Samuel Jennings is not just a great javelin thrower for the state of Oregon. Or for the northwest. Of even the west coast. His throw of 213 feet, 5 inches at the Nike/Jesuit Twilight Relays on Friday, April 30 is the third best throw in the nation this season.

The Nike/Jesuit Twilight Relays brought together some of the best track and field student athletes from around the northwest. Jennings bested them all and with the personal record set in Beaverton, is now the third best in the nation.

For the boys, University of Idaho bound and current Enterprise senior Zac Knapp placed ninth in the 3200-meters with a personal best time of 9 minutes, 10.44 seconds. La Pine junior Wyatt Montgomery, running a personal best of 4:14.74, placed 42nd in the 1500 meters.

Pendleton senior Anders Oja blistered the 110-meter hurdles at 15.26 seconds for a fourth-place finish.

Two eastern Oregon athletes showed up in the shot put event with Pendleton sophomore Nathan Nevwau placing sixth (51-03.25) and La Pine senior Stephen Machin grabbing seventh (50-02.00). The two reversed finishes in the discus with Machin taking fifth and Neveau taking seventh.

For the girls, Pendleton senior Reilly Lovercheck had a busy day, placing eighth in the 100-meter hurdles, 14th in the long jump and 17th in the triple jump.
