PILOT ROCK – The Enterprise/Joseph/Wallowa cross country team kicked off the season with wins by both the boys and girls competing at the John Hascall Memorial 3k on Thursday, Aug. 29 in Pilot Rock.
For the boys, the Outlaws finished with 19 points after taking four of the five top spots in the race. Enterprise/Joseph/Wallowa was led by senior Jett Leavitt’s time of 9 minutes, 4.5 seconds over the three-kilometer race. Junior Jonah Lyman picked up second followed by senior Lucas Goodrich in third. Pendleton junior Jack Reynolds broke up the Outlaw group, placing fourth after crossing the finish in 10:25.00.
Stanfield/Echo’s top runner was just outside the top five with senior Jack Sperr placing sixth followed by Nixyaawii sophomore Sun Schimmel in seventh. For the host Rockets, senior Carter Ford placed 12th.
The Outlaw girls also put up a score of 19 points for the team win followed by Heppner’s 49 points in second and Pendleton’s 69-point total for third.
A new face was the first to the finish line as Outlaw freshman Lilly Weer took the victory with a time of 11:30.30. Heppner junior Lily Nichols picked up second followed by four Enterprise/Joseph/Wallowa competitors.
Pendleton’s top runner was just outside the top ten as freshman Buckaroo Ella Pozar picked up 11th. For host Piot Rock, freshman Hailey Severe finished 19th with Golden Eagle sophomore Rosaella Salt placing 33rd as the top time for Nixyaawii.
