FT. WALLA WALLA – A number of eastern Oregon teams made the trip to Fort Walla Walla in Washington to compete in the Hawk Invite on Saturday, Sept. 24.
Both as a team and as individual runners, the Union boys continue to show power. The Bobcat boys placed second in the team standings, behind only the team from Moscow, Idaho. Pendleton placed eighth in the point total followed by McLoughlin.
The Bobcats placed three runners in the top 10 of the 114 competitors including race winner, junior Eli Williams running a personal best time of 16 minutes, 43 seconds. Sophomore Nathaniel O’Reilly finished the race in seventh and freshman William Mallory placed ninth.
The top finisher for the Pendleton Buckaroos came at 13th with freshman Jack Reynolds and MacHi’s Raj Singh finished 37th.
The Bobcats girls picked up third place in the team standings followed by Pendleton in fourth.
Union freshman Angel Shields-Marrs was the lone Oregon runner with an individual top five finish, placing fourth and a time of 22:13, a personal record for Shields-Marrs. For the Buckaroos, junior Aubrey Harrison was the first Pendleton runner to cross the line, finishing in 22nd. In 51st, McLoughlin freshman Emma Gomez picked up the top placement for the Pioneers.
Easternoregonsports.com is again standing out from other media sources by listing all the runners from eastern Oregon schools in the cross-country competitions. First or 41st, all these runners made it to the finish line. There is only a single runner with the best time, but there are many more stories worth mentioning afterwards.
