NAMPA, IDAHO – The female wrestling teams representing Baker, Nyssa, Ontario and Vale joined 25 Idaho teams competing at the 3rd Annual Jaybird Memorial in Nampa on Saturday, January 25.
The Lady Bulldogs of Baker placed third in the team standings with the Ontario girls breaking into the top five in the team standings at fifth place. Nyssa placed seventh and Vale ended their tournament ranked 14th.
Picking up points for the Vikings was Tyler Richardson and her first place finish in the 136-pound class. Richardson, in the championship match, took a 5-0 decision over Timberline’s Mercedes Ellison.
Baker also ended the tournament with a first place individual finish as Bailey Cole took the medal at 170 pounds after pinning Ontario’s Jasmin Lopez in the championship match.
Ontario grabbed a first place medal as Abigail Osei pinned Kuna’a Brianna Hettinga in the heavyweight division.

Nyssa’s top placement went to Noelle Acosta. Acosta fell in the final match at 143 pounds to Columbia’s Payton Lanningham, taking the bus home with a second place finish.
