NAMPA, ID – A handful of eastern Oregon girls’ wrestling teams spent the weekend in Nampa, Idaho, taking part in the Jaybird Memorial.
The top finish for our local teams went to the La Grande Tigers with a 14th place showing. The combined team of Baker/Powder Valley dned the tournament in 32nd, just ahead of Union’s 35th place showing. The Antelope girls of Adrian placed 40th.
La Grande sophomore Dora Galinda evened up her season record to 3-3 with a third-place finish in the 106B-pound division, pinning Emmett’s Jayla Goslin at the 1 minute, 12 second mark.
In the 113B-pound class, two Tigers wrestlers took the podium. La Grande freshman Shanti Ward placed second followed by sophomore Nevaeh Hall in third place.
The finishes for the Tigers continued as junior Delia Gulzow grabbed fifth place in the 120-pound division. Wrestling in the 120B-pound division, Tiger sophomore Nakita Gonzales placed second.
The 126B-pound class was dominated by eastern Oregon teams. La Grande junior Luca Willins grabbed the title with a win over Bonneville’s Jenna Williams by pin. In the battle for third place, La Grande senior Madysen Gilbert pinned Union sophomore Cheyanna Starboard.
La Grande freshman Paige Allen upped her season record to 11-4 with a fifth place showing at 132 pounds.
