PAYETTE – On the road for their first outing of the year and under new head coach Millie Padilla, the Ontario volleyball squad came up one set short of picking up a victory facing non-league opponent, the Payette Pirates of Idaho.
Payette jumped out quickly, taking the first two sets, 25-16 and 25-18. Ontario awoke in the third set, winning 25-19 and tied up the match with a 25-22 win in the fourth set, setting up a deciding fifth. The Tigers came up two points short of scoring their first win of the year with a 13-15 fifth set loss.
Ontario libero Angie Herrera led the Tigers with 12 digs and four kills from the back row.
“She dominated alongside her teammates,” said Padilla. “I am so proud of how the girls played in their first game of the season. They are showing how hard work pays off and I am excited to see what this season will bring us.”
