ONTARIO – Javier Gonzalez has patrolled the sidelines of the Ontario Tigers girls’ soccer program since the 2019-20 season. Recognizing his years of dedication to the sport, Gonzales was recently named the National Federation of State High School Association (NFHS) Oregon Coach of the Year for girls’ soccer among all the state’s coaches throughout all classifications.

Gonzalez was nominated for the award by a selection committee through the Oregon Athletic Coaches Association.

Gonzalez will now compete against surrounding state coaches in regional and possibly a national level competition for Coach of the Year.

To be eligible, recipients must “exemplify the highest standards of sportsmanship, ethical conduct and moral character, and be endorsed by their respective state high school associations.”

“Our congratulations go out to Javier on this honor and we wish him well as he moves on to the next level of recognition,” said Ontario athletic director Josh Mink.

“The Ontario School District appreciates everything Javier has done for both the sport of soccer and for the individual players he has mentored over the years,” said Ontario Superintendent Nicole Albisu. “The award is well deserved.”
