Nyssa Volleyball Weekly Recap

NYSSA – The Nyssa Bulldog volleyball squad opened the season August 26 with a trip to Idaho school Cole Valley. The Dawgs fell 0-3 on the road by scores of 17-25, 17-25, and 21-25.

Up early on August 28, Nyssa was in Powder Valley for tournament play. The Bulldogs faced the host team, the Powder Valley Badgers, winners of last season’s 1A culminating state tournament. Nyssa forced the Badgers to extra points in the first set, finally falling 24-26. Powder Valley then took the second set, 25-22 against the Bulldogs.

“We have started our season looking the best we ever have in the last three years,” said Nyssa coach Maddie Speelman. “We have a very promising season ahead of us and we will only be getting better as the weeks go on. I am very happy with the start of our season.”

For the week, senior Lea Garner was top server with 43, eight of those served as aces.

Fellow senior Brooklyn Johns led the offense with 48 attacks resulting in 16 kills.

The road games continue for the Bulldogs as Nyssa travels to New Plymouth on Sept. 2 for two matches. Starting at 5:30 p.m., Nyssa meets the Idaho 3A Payette Pirates. Immediately following, the Dawgs take on the Idaho 2A New Plymouth Pilgrims.
