NEW PLYMOUTH, ID – The wrestling teams of Vale and Nyssa jumped just over the border to compete among a number of large Idaho schools in the RD Brown Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 29 in New Plymouth, Idaho.
The Bulldog boys placed 10th in the team scoring followed closely by the Vale squad. Nyssa finished the day with 42 points while the Vikings put up 39 points.
Nyssa had two second-place finishes with senior Alec Carey falling in the championship match at 182 pounds to Weiser’s Malachi Hoobery. At 220 pounds, Bulldog junior Jesse Aragon was pinned by Capital’s Tucker French in the championship match.
Vale’s best finish came at 138 pounds as senior Nathan Kimball grabbed third place after a pin over Fruitland’s Kolby Rau.
A limited field of girls made for a few matches. Vale sophomore Ava Collins continued a successful season, winning the title at the 138-145 pound class. Collins was perfect on the day. The Vikings finished third in the team scoring.
