NYSSA – With evident first game jitters, the Nyssa softball team opened the season at home with a 2-15 loss to the Payette Pirates on Friday, March 17.

Bulldog junior Taylor Cassity took the loss for Nyssa, going the entire game on the mound and picking up 10 strikeouts to go with two walks and three Pirates taking the base after being hit by a pitch.

Offensively, senior Lauren Sapp finished the day 1-for-3 with a RBI triple.

“The score is indicative of a first game for a young team, with pieces to work on, and that is precisely what we intend to do,” said Nyssa coach Tracy Cleaver. “Our leader, Lauren Sapp, started the season at shortstop today, leading both on the field and at the plate. Taylor Cassity pitched her first whole game and threw well. She will be a big part of our successes as a team.”
