ONTARIO – Nyssa is 3A. Ontario is 4A. The Tigers compete in the GOL. The Bulldogs compete in the EOL. However, when the two teams met on Friday, December 13 on the Ontario home court, county supremacy and honor was on the line.
Nyssa can now claim a win over a county opponent after downing the Tigers, 66-44 in non-league play.
“We came over and watched them play last night,” said Nyssa senior Pedro Chavez. “We knew if we worked the paint, we would win this game.”
The Tigers did have the advantage early in the game after Jake Hartley hit a long 3-pointer to put Ontario up, 5-4. From that point on, the game was all Nyssa as the Bulldogs led 18-7 at the end of the first quarter.
Nyssa extended the lead to 39-17 as the two teams took to the locker room for the half.
“We really executed how we wanted tonight,” Chavez said after the game. “The game plan we had for tonight really worked well.”
Chavez ended his night with 26 points to lead all scorers in the game. Nico Gomeza backed up Chavez with 17 points and Leonardo Barbo ended the game with eight points.
In the loss, Ontario was led by Bradley Nielson and his 13 points.
Ontario (0-5 overall) searches for win number one on Tuesday, December 17 with a trip to Payette to take on the Idaho 3A Pirates.
