New rankings show Ontario top 4A team

ONTARIO – The Oregon Schools Activities Association release the organization’s weekly rankings and a new team sits atop the standings.

The Ontario boys’ soccer team, sporting no losses on the season, now officially is the top team in the 4A standings. The Tigers, with only a home match versus La Grande on Saturday left on the season schedule, have an 8-0-3 record. Two of the ties came in matches against Weiser, Idaho and the one league tie took place in a match versus McLoughlin.

Marist Catholic holds down second in the rankings and Phoenix is third. Valley Catholic and Stayton round out the top five. Marist Catholic is the only other 4A team yet to taste defeat in the state at 11-0-1.

Ontario’s opponent on Saturday, the La Grande Tigers, are ranked seventh with MacHi sitting in the eighth slot.
