Easternoregonsports.com has picked up so many new followers since our last track article, we need to explain a few things. Unlike other media outlets, we provide more than the top three or five finishes for events. We believe every student athlete putting the effort forth deserves recognition. The runner finishing 28th did not work less than the runner crossing the tape in first. You will find every finisher in this article representing eastern Oregon schools. Yes, it is more work and yes, the article is long. But easternoregonsports is pleased you will find your favorite athlete no matter their finish.

THE DALLES – Track and field athletes were provided the opportunity to get out and compete as teams from around the region gathered at the Mullen Leavitt Invite held at the Wahtonka Track in The Dalles on Friday, March 18.

No team scores were kept for the event.

As this was the first event of the season and State FFA did pull a number of athletes away from competing, it is early in the season to make predictions. That being said, a few times and results did stand out.

Condon sophomore Grady Greenwood swept the field, winning the 3000 meters in a time of 10:14.67. Teammate Kallyn Wilkins, a senior, placed first in the girls race.

Umatilla senior Issac Armenta was the lone runner to go under 22 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles.

Joseph senior Kale Ferguson won the discus event with a throw of 118 feet, 6 inches while teammate Kale Ferguson, a junior won the javelin going 147 feet, 1 inch. Joseph appears strong in the field events as senior Reece Nelson grabbed first in the high jump and triple jump.

Trout Lake looks strong in the pole vault as freshman Sawyer Dean placed second followed by junior Landon Heberling in third.

Lyle/Wishram made a statement as senior Hannah Lind won the 100-meter hurdles.

The Joseph girls were led by sophomore Iona McDonald’s win in the 300-meter hurdles.

Umatilla senior Taylor Durfey was first in the shot put and backed that up with a second in the discus.

Sherman sophomore Sophie Hulke is close to a 100-feet throw in the discus after taking first.

Klickitat junior Chloe Wenz easily took the title in the javelin event.

Lyle/Wishram appears to have two high jumpers as senior Hannah Lind and Hannah Beeks tied for first.
