Y-1 Farms is located in Jamieson, Oregon and is owned by Doug and Terrie Maag and Corey and Mandi Maag. Various row crops such as onions, sugar beets, silage corn, alfalfa, and wheat are grown on nearly 2000 acres. The feed crops are used to provide feed for the feedlot they operate. Up to 12,000 head of cattle can be fed at Y-1 Farms. Y-1 Farms was established in 1985 but the Maag Family was farming before that. Doug farmed with his father, Warner Maag, for several years prior before purchasing his own farm. Y-1 Farms employs about 20 full-time employees to assist in operating the farm. We are extremely grateful for our employees and the hard work they provide.

VALE – The Burns girls brought home two things on Saturday, Jan. 11. The first, a positive, was a nonleague victory over Sisters. The second, a negative, was a stomach flu, one that showed up at the worst of times. Facing the second ranked Vale Vikings, on the road in Vale and opening the Eastern Oregon League, the Hilanders left six players back home, recuperating. Playing without bodies in key positions and facing a strong Viking defense, Burns fell in a 25-51 game.

“Whatever we picked up is just horrible,” said Burns coach Jamie Rusow. “Not making excuses because Vale is a great team and does not make mistakes. But we could have used the girls we left at home.”

Between the Hilander boys and girls, a total of 11 players remained in Burns instead of making the trip to Vale.

The game started with the Vikings quickly finding three long-range perimeter shots finding nothing but net, jumping out quickly 9-0. While the Viks went on to score 20 points in the initial eight minutes, the Hilander offense was slow to get going, scoring only six points. As the first half came to a close, Vale led 35-14.

After Vale added an additional 11 points in the third quarter, a running clock in the final eight minutes ended the game.

Junior Elli Jacobs found her spot from the perimeter, leading the Vale scoring with 17 points, 12 of those three-pointers. The inside game was also firing as junior Izzy Maag ended her night with 13 points. Junior Kesley Stepleton added eight points.

For Burns, senior Akylah Kaino scored 16 of the team’s 25 total points.
