EUGENE – La Pine senior Stephen Machin wrapped up his senior year with not one, but two individual state titles. His victories helped the Falcons finish in third in the team standings as the OSAA 3A State Track and Field Meet concluded at Hayward Field in Eugene.
The Catlin Gabel boys were crowned state champions followed by Santiam Christian and La Pine in third. The Bulldog boys of Nyssa finished fifth with Vale keeping in the top ten in ninth. Riverside picked up 16th with Burns placing 19th and Umatilla 24th.
Machin bested the rest of the 3A field in the shot put with a heave of 50 feet, 6.25 inches. He followed up that medal with a first place in the discus after a throw of 165 feet, 2 inches, the best throw of his high school career.
