NYSSA – Just eight months ago, the La Pine wrestling squad left the mats of an unofficial state tournament crowned state champions. Fast forward to 2022 and the Hawks are on track to make a state title official this year after winning the 3A Special District 1 on Saturday, Feb. 19 in Nyssa.
La Pine finished the day with 381.5 points, easily outplacing Burns, in second with 263 points. The host Nyssa team placed third with 209 points with Riverside and Vale rounding out the top five team finishes.
Counting last year’s unofficial result, La Pine has picked up two state titles in three years and is looking tough going into this year’s state matches. The Hawks qualified 14 individuals to take to the mats for the state championship, including Tyson Flack and Dylan Mann looking for a repeat of an individual state title.
