La Pine Track Opens Season In Bend

BEND – The La Pine track and field team traveled to Bend to open the high school track season, meeting Bend and Sisters in a tri-meet.

For the boys, the Hawks finished second in the team scoring with 43.3 points. Senior Wyatt Montgomery, coming off a successful cross-country season, placed first in the 800 meters and finished his day with a second place showing in the 1500 meters.

Fellow senior Stephen Machin picked up first place in the shot put with a throw of 47 feet, 11 inches and also won the discus event with a distance of 151-04.25.

The La Pine girls finished third in the team standings with 28 points.

The strength in the distance events continued for La Pine with junior Ashley Jentzsch placing first in the 800 meters and second in the 1500 meters.

Sophomore Rylee Miller was also a first-place finisher for the Hawks, taking the title in the javelin with a throw of 86-10.
