SCAPPOOSE – The La Grande girls’ wrestling team kicked off the season with a first place showing at the Knife River Invitational, held Saturday, Dec. 7 in Scappoose. The Tiger girls outdistanced Redmond by over 60 points for the team trophy.
In addition to the overall victory, Paige Allen, Alaina Verdugo and Maddie Armstrong also returned home with individual titles.
Verdugo finished her day 3-0 in the 110-pound class for the title. Allen put in a long day on the mat, wrestling in six matches at 145 pounds and winning all by pin. For her efforts, Allen was named “Outstanding Wrestler of the Tournament”. At 190 pounds, Armstrong pinned her three opponents on her way to the championship.
