SIUSLAW – The La Grande Tigers girl’s track and field team placed third in the 4A culminating track and field meet on Saturday, May 22 at Siuslaw High School.
The Tigers scored 47 points in the third-place finish behind champion Hidden Valley and host and runner up Siuslaw.
Also representing the Greater Oregon League, the Baker girls placed eighth and Ontario wrapped up the day in 17th.
Helping out the Baker Bulldogs, senior Sydney Keller ended her high school career with a first-place showing in the pole vault, clearing 10 feet. Keller was the lone champion among the GOL athletes in the meet.
Looking at the future, the distance events look promising for La Grande as freshman Emily Tubbs placed second in the 1500 race, followed up by a third place showing in the 3000 meters.

La Grande speedster and senior Katie Brown finished her career with a fourth place finish in the 100 and a seventh place finish in the 200.
The Tigers also found points in the field events as senior Anna Green placed third in the discus and upped her placement to second in the javelin.
Baker junior Emma Baeth returned home with a second place showing in the 800 and joined teammates Anna Belding, Sydnee Pierce and Sydney Keller for second place in the 4-by-400 relay.
Ontario senior Meagan Houston leaves the Ontario team after a fourth place in the 100 meters while senior Lexy Jordan placed fifth, hers coming in the 300-meter hurdles.
On the boy’s side, the top finish for the GOL was La Grande at 13th. The Bulldog boys of Baker placed 22nd and McLoughlin finished 28th, one spot ahead of Ontario’s 29th.
La Grande’s premier distance runner, senior Cristian Mendoza had a fourth-place finish in the 3000 race and a sixth-place finish in the 1500 meters.
MacHi has one more year of Shaw Badillo as the junior placed fourth in the shot put event.
