Easternoregonsports.com needs to explain a few things as this new track year opens. Unlike other media outlets, we provide more than the top three or five finishes for events. We believe every student athlete putting the effort forth deserves recognition. The runner finishing 28th did not work less than the runner crossing the tape in first. You will find every finisher in this article representing eastern Oregon schools. Yes, it is more work and yes, the article is long. But easternoregonsports is pleased you will find your favorite athlete no matter their finish.
ST. MARY’S – The Lakeview track and field team opened the season with a trip to St. Mary’s to take part in the 24th annual Crusader Relays.
The Honker boys finished third in the team scoring after first place finishes by junior Breyden Spalasso and senior Trevor Owens. Spalasso outdistanced the javelin field with a top throw of 98 feet, 2.5 inches. Owens was tops in the high jump after clearing 5 feet, 8 inches.
The Lakeview girls finished the day with a seventh place showing in the team scores. Lakeview was led by sophomore Elizabeth Goeres, a second place finisher in the one-mile run with a time of 7 minutes, 38.5 seconds. Freshman Paige Owens started her high school career with a second place finish in the high jump, clearing the bar at 4 feet, 8 inches.
