LANE COMMUNITY COLLEGE – The Lakeview duo of sophomore Emma Halblieb and senior Elizabeth Goeres will have a leg up at the competition at the upcoming state cross country meet. Both have already seen the course at Lane Community College and qualified for the state meet after the conclusion of the 3A/2A/1A Special District 4 Championship was held Thursday, Oct. 31.
The Lakeview girls finished sixth in the team standings. However, due to their individual finishes, both Halblieb and Goeres will return to Lane Community College for the state meet.
Halblieb grabbed the opportunity at district to run a personal best time of 19 minutes, 54.51 seconds to take third place for the day. Halblieb’s appearance in last season’s state meet resulted in a finish of 45th but her district time is over one minute better this year.
Goeres is making her plans for the state meet after the slimmest of margins. The Honker senior finished the district championship in seventh after crossing the tape in 20:14.42. Seventh is the final chance for an individual to qualify for state. Last season, Goeres also made the trip to the state meet, finishing 31st.
Due to only four runners, the Lakeview boys failed to qualify for a team score. The top finish for the Honkers went to sophomore Ben Springer in 28th.
