BURNS – Both the boys and girls squads of the Burns Hilanders cross country team were victorious as the Burns Invitational wrapped up competition at the Idlewild Campground on Saturday, Sept. 17.
A freshman led the boys for Burns. Lucian Miller, in just his second race of his high school career, picked up his first win of his career with a time of 19 minutes, 30 seconds. Junior Tim Banks rans second, the only other runner under 20 minutes, finishing in 19:57. Sophomore Carsen Volle placed third.
Nyssa junior Spencer Romans was the top Bulldog placer, crossing the line in fourth with a time of 20:32.
The results for the Hilander girls were much the same with Burns claiming the top five spots led by freshman Sydney White. Racing in her first competition as a high school runner, White finished the 5,000 meters in 22:23, the top time of the day. She was followed by senior Mattie Woodbury in second and junior Aleyna Banks in third.
Nyssa freshman Jazlybe Martinez was the top Bulldog runner, placing sixth.
